《路透》報導，阿富汗難民艾哈邁迪（Mirza Ali Ahmadi）和他的妻子蘇拉亞（Suraya）8月19日在喀布爾機場撤離時，因擔心兩個月大的兒子索海爾（Sohail）會被人潮壓死，因此將他交給提供協助的美軍，但在一家人終於進入機場圍籬內之後，卻再也找不到索海爾。

艾哈邁迪表示自己在機場裡拼命詢問遇到的每一位美國官員是否知道索海爾的下落，有一名美軍指揮官告訴他，索海爾可能被帶到一個特殊的兒童區以策安全，但艾哈邁迪前往尋找後仍一無所獲。

艾哈邁迪不諳英語，不知道該指揮官的名字，兩人走遍整座機場，但仍找不到索海爾。
