美國國會原訂在當地時間6日13時（台灣時間7日2時）召開聯席會議，認證2020年美國總統結果，不料當日一早起大批總統川普支持者湧入華府參加川普的造勢場合，隨後更闖入國會大廈，不久後遭到警方驅逐，過程中一名女性抗議者中槍不幸身亡。

警方清場之後國會重新恢復議程，美國朝野上下紛紛發文譴責「川粉」。

準總統拜登表示，今天的事件是一個痛苦的提醒，民主是脆弱的。為了維護民主需要人們的善意、領導者的勇氣。

現任國務卿蓬佩奧也發推文譴責，表示入侵國會山莊是不可接受的，漫無法紀以及報暴動，不管在世界上的哪裏都一樣。彭佩奧表示他造訪過許多國家，支持和平抗議。

共和黨參議員羅姆尼也在選舉人團票點算聯席會議中發言呼籲同僚完成憲政程序，也在推特上表示華府今天發生的事情是一個暴亂（insurrection），由總統川普煽動。

參議院共和黨領導人麥康諾（McChonnell）也譴責暴徒，稱呼為失敗的動亂，呼籲國會完成選舉人票點算。

民主黨眾議院議長裴洛西（Nancy Pelosi）也在推特上譴責，表示這是對我們民主的攻擊，由政府最高等級的人所鼓動，這些不應該阻止我們完成對憲法的義務。
