台鐵太魯閣號2日上午9時發生出軌意外、致重大死傷，各國聞訊接連釋出慰問，外媒也持續報導台灣事故。

美國國務院發言人波特（Jalina Porter）於2日例行會議表示，「對台灣列車出軌事件深感悲痛，對所有受影響民眾表達最深切哀悼，美國已準備好、願提供一切可能協助」。

美國務院東南亞局（EAP Bureau）也推文表示，對此深感悲痛，對所有人致上最深切哀悼，祝福台灣能在此艱難時刻得到平安與安慰。美國在台協會（AIT）稍早也透過新聞稿致上慰問，並表示美國隨時準備好協助台灣應對今日事故及後續復原工作。

We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and casualties caused by the train derailment in Taiwan. We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected, and we wish Taiwan peace and comfort during this difficult time.

美國駐聯合國大使克拉夫特（KellyCraft）也於第一時間回應，表示對於台灣發生的悲劇事件用言詞難以形容，每位罹難者都是個未來寄望，一條生命的喪失所影響的是無數人，對於死傷乘客家屬的喪失，我們（美國）將會與你們同在、為你們祈禱。

美國共和黨籍參議員布萊克本（Marsha Blackburn）推文表示，聽聞台灣悲慘的火車出軌造成生命損失感到十分難過，並對受害者、家人與造成的影響表示誠摯哀悼。同黨籍眾議員匡希恆（John Curtis）也於個人推特表示，為這起可怕事故的死難者與家屬祈禱，並向友人與台灣民眾表達最深切的慰問。

美國眾議院外交事務委員會亞太小組委員會主席阿米貝拉（Ami Bera）也回應，衷心向所有台鐵死傷事件衝擊人士致上哀悼，想法與死傷者的家屬、朋友及受傷者同在。

葡萄牙僅管缺乏資金、在台未設置代表處，外交部仍於官方推特表達深切遺憾，表示將與台灣站在一起，外交部也回覆致上感謝，言道「對於台灣東部造成數十人死亡的意外，葡萄牙深感遺憾，謹向受害者、家屬以及台灣政府表達聲援。」

加拿大駐台北貿易辦事處處長喬丹（Jordan Reeves）2日也以中英文推文回應，「向所有受到今早附近嚴重火車出軌影響的人們表示最深切的哀悼。我們希望能在這個艱困的時候表達對台灣人民的慰問。」，加拿大外交部也同時推文致上慰問。

我國於東加勒比海邦交國、聖克里斯多福及尼維斯的總理哈里斯（Timothy Harris）也代表人民、向總統蔡英文發表由衷慰問，對於艱難時刻當下的慘重生命損失致上哀悼。

其他國家也陸續表示哀悼之意，包含瓜地馬拉駐華大使館、立陶宛外交事務部，駐聖文森國大使館、我國駐索馬里蘭代表處、我國駐美國經濟文化代表處等。日本首相菅義偉、國防大臣岸信夫與前首相安倍晉三，都已於2日事故發生後發文表達慰問。
